Keynote II - Changes in the Automotive Industry
General Director of Automotive Cluster of Nuevo León, A.C. (CLAUT).

ABSTRACT
In the last 100 years the automobile has not changed as it will change in the next 10 years. The internal combustion vehicle will be transformed into a fully electric one, but also the car will be autonomous and will be a vehicle connected with its environment, this is leading us to change the mobility models that exist in cities and the vehicle itself will have other requirements, starting with changing fossil fuels for electrical energy, which will now also be cleaner energy. These changes are developing from the engineering capacities of companies, universities, and entrepreneurs and new business models will be emerging along with the great mobility models. The motivators for change are preceded by the desire of humanity to have a more sustainable world, this is leading governments in certain countries and in certain regions to take seriously the Paris agreement for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. greenhouse. Vehicles in the world today contribute significantly to the pollution of the planet, due to the use of fossil fuels, that is why it is imperative to start using cleaner sources to move people in cities and on highways. Legislation in some countries is forcing vehicle producers to electrify at the same time they are challenged to create the necessary infrastructure so that vehicles can be charged with energy along cities and highways. This is creating very relevant technological challenges for the different branches of engineering. The vehicle is radically changing, the electric car in general is simpler, many internal combustion car parts will disappear, engines, transmissions, exhaust systems, etc., will change or disappear, the electric car will be simpler and there will be new ways to manufacture it. The challenge today for the expansion of the electric vehicle is the creation of battery technology at competitive prices and that allow greater autonomy to electrical equipment, we are now in a race to create that technology, and engineering is at the center of these challenges.

Keynote III - Smart Cities and Electromobility
Streamed in Magno Room 1 - Conference Room

ABSTRACT
In recent years, cities are facing new challenges to become “smart and sustainable cities”.  Among the other objectives, for a smart city or smart district it is essential to optimize the use of energy in order to minimize the costs and the consumption of non-green energy, maximizing the use of renewables and the comfort of customers. In this context, the smart grid technology can ensure the most efficient way to manage and use the electricity in a urban or district environment also integrating and exploiting renewable energy sources and storage devices. Moreover, the smart grid needs to interact with smart homes and buildings in order to optimize the energy flows (production, distribution, consumption, V2G, H2G), satisfying the needs of both customers and operators. Recently, new management schemes and approaches have been proposed to model and simulate networks of smart buildings that are interconnected and that can intelligently interact in order to optimize the use of the available power, minimizing the costs and maximizing users’ satisfaction. In particular, hierarchical management architectures are adopted to propose efficient solutions both at city/district level and building/home level, thanks to dedicated energy management systems and optimization strategies. Another important objective of the smart city is making smart and green mobility and transport systems. New models and solutions are necessary to enhance the development and use of electric vehicles, minimizing the negative impact of transportation systems on the environment, and to provide the mobility as a service for the citizens. In this framework, new services are proposed to optimize the itinerary and charge planning of electric vehicles, towards improving the driving experience of such vehicles especially for long trips. In addition, new strategies are proposed to guarantee high quality level of electric vehicle sharing services by optimizing the vehicles distribution in the urban context.

Keynote IV - The Interconnection between Lean Management and Industry 4.0 concepts and technologies
Streamed in Magno Room 1 - Conference Room

ABSTRACT
Scholars and practitioners have identified a strong link between Lean Methods and Industry 4.0 technologies and concepts. However, so far, just few empirical studies have been carried out to understand the interrelationship between Lean and Industry 4.0. Traditional losses are caused by external factors (e.g. frequent changes by the customer) as well as within the supply chain (e.g. assembly errors on-site). Generally, Lean methods can be applied to mitigate these losses, but considering industries like the Engineer-to-Order (ETO), various implementation barriers exist. The keynote presentation will discuss by using examples the opportunities and potentials of Industry 4.0 technologies and concepts to overcome traditional Lean implementation barriers.

Plenary II - Geointelligence as a key driver of Digital Transformation
ABSTRACT
Geospatial information and Earth observation data combined with socio-economic and other statistical data provide a unique input to governments and organizations in their policy preparation, monitoring and evaluation. These data, along with digital developments and industry innovations, will play a large role in global stewardship, enabling faster, more accurate and trustworthy information to be made available to decision makers to inform decisions, monitor progress and assess the impact of interventions.
Digital transformation has been instrumental in democratizing mapping information, making geospatial technology available to the individual by way of location-enabled devices. In an increasingly interconnected world, geospatial information has become integrated into everyday life. This can be seen through the daily use of smartphones and location-based services, to the growth in developments in self-driving cars, the Internet of Things, and satellite sensors. Taking advantage of this growing volume of location-based information, geospatial has become a game changer for local and national governments and organizations alike. Geointelligence has an important role on the digital transformation and the smart use of it, is a valuable asset in the decision making processes of governments and organizations.

Plenary III - Industry 4.0 Elements: Implications and Future Perspectives
ABSTRACT
The term Industry 4.0 refers to the Fourth Industrial Revolution in which technology is a definitive value of the expansion of a Project. Therefore, SMEs must make a technological investment to adjust the means to the corporate purpose.  This revolution shows an increase in the amount of data handled by the business; however, technological intelligence facilitates a quick reading of that information. This scenario is also defined by a greater proximity relationship with the customer since Industry 4.0 also involves the final customer. The next step is to think that other technologies can help boost your company productivity. Digital transformation is happening every day, all around us, driven by the need of integrating new technologies and machines. Technology advances, especially communication and TICs are changing the manner in which business create and capture value, how and where people work and how people interact and communicate.

Plenary V - Design for Manufacturing and Assembly in the Automotive Industry
Engine Systems & HVAC Project Responsable, Stellantis, Ciudad de México, México.

ABSTRACT
Design for manufacturing / Assembly (DFM/DFA) is a methodology that enables a product design to be efficiently manufactured and easily assembled with a minimum labor cost.  Some of the process you can follow to accomplish DFM /DFA are: reduce the quantity of parts, simplify part design, design parts for easy assembly and within known process capabilities, utilize common parts and materials, use of Poka Yokes, understand handling requirements, reduce / eliminate interconnections between components, incorporate easy and efficient fastening methods, modular product design and design parts that can be automated.  In the automotive industry, DFM/DFA plays a special role. When we follow these guidelines, we have a chance to identify serious problems and optimize processes related to the implementation of a given solution as early as in the design stage, when the costs of changes are still relatively small.  The end goal is to have better products at a lower cost that will make a vehicle more competitive in the market.

Keynote VII - Nanolubricants for Metalworking Applications
Professor, Engineering and Technologies School, University of Monterrey, Monterrey, Mexico.

ABSTRACT
Machining is a commonly used manufacturing method in the metal-mechanic industry. In this manufacturing process cutting inserts are mounted into a shell mill to remove material from the workpiece and metalworking lubricants are usually employed with the purpose of reducing friction between contacting surfaces. In order to reduce insert wear along with the energy consumption of the process and surface roughness of the workpiece different approaches for cleaner production have been used. For example, nanoparticles have been explored as additives for lubricants. Also, surface engineering techniques such as surface texturing of cutting inserts have showed promising results in the literature. In this talk, two different studies are presented showing the effect of adding nanoparticles into a metalworking lubricant in combination with laser surface texturing of cutting inserts for reducing the output parameters of energy consumption, insert wear and surface roughness of the workpiece. Statistical methods were used to optimize the nanoparticle concentration in the lubricant and analyze the effect of the geometries used for texturing inserts. Results showed that the output parameters were significantly enhanced by adding nanoparticles to the lubricant in combination with laser surface texturing, which can impact the efficiency of the manufacturing process, reduce the use of cutting inserts and reduce costs.

Plenary VII - The Behavior of Biodegradable Materials in Injection Molding and 3D Printing Processes
Professor Dumitru Nedelcu, Ph.D., "Gheorghe Asachi" Technical University of Iasi, Romania.

ABSTRACT
During the last decades, there has been an increased interest in the use of lignin based composites following the ideas of developing green materials for fossil-based raw materials substitution.
The plastics materials have an important part in our life, and applicability in all activity area. This is the reason why the development of biodegradable material competitive from all points of view is more than necessarily. To create new products from renewable resources it is required to perform a multidisciplinary research at a highly technological level.
The paper describes the results obtained regarding the different parts obtained from biopolymers Arbofill, Arboblend, PLA, GreenTech  etc. using injection moulding and 3D Printing processes. The results will focus on mechanical properties (tensile, flexural, impact, micro and nano indentation tests, tribological properties, Dynamic Mechanical Analysis, surface analysis, scratch analysis, tribological and influence of technological parameters on mechanical properties), thermal and microstructural analysis (Differential Scanning Calorimetry, Differential Thermal Analysis, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, X-Ray Diffraction, Scanning Electron Microscopy, Energy-dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy).
Comparing the results with different plastics can be concluded that the used biodegradable materials have superior quality and strength that meet the technological demands, replacing successfully the market giant-plastic within all activity fields.

Plenary XI - The next generation of Digital Twins for smart cities
Streamed in Magno Room 1 - Conference Room

ABSTRACT
The Digital Twin concept has started to gain a lot of momentum across the world due to a high need to consolidate all heterogeneous data sources into a single model that can be used for various purposes from maintenance, inspection, scenario testing, prediction, etc. This presentation aims at providing an overview of the evolution of Digital Twins for smart cities while transitioning towards current maturity levels and a future direction aiming at real-time integration and continuous monitoring of the city. The case study which will be presented is the next generation of Digital Twin built by the Data Science Institute from the University of Technology Sydney, Australia, which integrates several powerful components such as a) the entire train network layout and 3D mapping of the city of Sydney, b) the real-time train movement via GTFS feeds (General Transit Feed Specification),  c) a traffic simulation model for incident impact analysis, d) and a deep learning engine powered by graph neural networks for predicting the total number of train passengers exiting stations that would be affected by disruptions. The DL model is powered by one of the largest mobile data providers in Australia with granular insights into a realistic passenger movement across the rail network. The model has also been integrated with water pipe sensing and air quality hourly reporting and will be further connected to larger geospatial databases aimed at predicting the impact of large-scale events such as bushfires, floods or COVID-19 travel restrictions. The final goal is to be able to construct an integrated Digital Twin model for the city of Sydney that can be used for multiple purposes: people movement, transport and energy optimization, waste collection, air quality improvement, etc.

Keynote XIV - Innovation Ecosystems: Theory and Reality
Chassis Technologies for EVs - Manager – Commercial Vehicles, Metalsa, Monterrey, México.

ABSTRACT
Innovation ideas could spark from anyone, anytime and anywhere. However, they would not become a reality without an innovation ecosystem in place. The latter is needed to provide the right tools, partners, and environment to make those ideas grow sustainably. This presentation will address the key elements associated with the theory of innovation ecosystems and will discuss several examples of innovation failures and successes to demonstrate the impact of designing, creating, and nurturing an innovation ecosystem. Nevertheless, regardless the strategy is clear, the task to make it a reality does not happen overnight and brings challenges that are usually not addressed by the innovator’s community. Therefore, despite it is not possible to guarantee that certain innovations will be a success or not, we can at least give it the best chance by building an appropriate innovative environment, so the great ideas find their way to commercially successful products.

Keynote XV - Industry 4.0: Data from Volume to Value
Chassis Technologies for EVs - Manager – Commercial Vehicles.

ABSTRACT
Within industrial engineering and operations Industry 4.0 or Cyber Physical Factories as concept conquered the entire industrial world across the globe. And it is not just about the interconnectivity of machineries and assets on the shopfloor. It is about the integration and interconnectivity of shop floor applications like PLCs, SCADA and MES with Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning on top floor level.
A simple process name like “From Order to Production” discloses all the challenges which have to be faced. “Digital Ready” (OPC-UA to MQTT), “Plug & Produce”, “(International) Standardized Data Models”, “Edge Computing” and “Cybersecurity” are just some key-words reflecting challenges Industry 4.0 and IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) are coming up with. Corporations have to rethink their approach how to look at their operations from supply chain to production and sales and distribution. Management and employees have to be re- and upskilled to understand the opportunities but also the limitations of Industry 4.0 / IIoT to achieve the optimum for their corporation.
The integration and interconnection stand also for the generation of Big Data. Big Data have to be handled (hyper scaler are offering today solutions for this – which have to be evaluated carefully). But Big Data opens huge opportunities to improve operations and enterprise performances. To name just some application fields:
  • Asset tracking and monitoring in supply chain, production, sales and distribution
  • Preventive maintenance
  • Condition monitoring of assets in supply chain, production, sales and after sales
  • Reduce ecological foot prints (consumption of natural resources, reducing CO2 Emissions, achieving compliance to Europe’s “Green Deal”)
  • And last but not least Industry 4.0 / IIoT and Big Data are opening doors for innovation and new business models
Crystal System Group Ltd. and its Partners are early adaptors to new challenges are aware about the challenges but also potential solutions related to Industry 4.0 / IIoT and developed answers from Education via Business Blue Print up to Implementation and Customization. Crystal System helps corporations on their digital transformation journey to turn from volumes to values and presents today its Educational Program “Industry 4.0 and Industrial Data Management”.

Plenary XV - Conscious Technologies for Smart Communities: Case
Professor, Engineering and Sciences, Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey, Monterrey, Mexico.

ABSTRACT
Smart communities solve needs and challenges through people communication. Smart cities face current common problems through connectivity and digital platforms. The question is how we can create a strategic framework of action to transform the way we build and manage our urban spaces ?. A stakeholder hub can accelerate this transformation. We propose a starting point where the use of innovation and technology adoption that meets the needs of people and the economic environment are the main actors. The challenge is always how to achieve green, safe urban growth with sustainable mobility. The joint participation of universities, and world leaders in technology and solutions to meet the needs of cities and municipalities through living labs and test technology deployments will allow a faster understanding of the use and advantages of digital in public transport, creating green public spaces, and improving urban planning and management in participatory and inclusive ways. This work presents the recent advances and efforts of the smart communities / smarter cities initiative in Tec de Monterrey.
